For the dough:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
For the coating:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a pan, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and gradually add in the flour, mixing until the dough forms. Remove from heat.
- Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl, let cool for 4-5 minutes, then add egg and vanilla extract. Mix with an electric hand mixer until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a piping bag and preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Pipe bite-sized churros onto the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Cook in batches for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- In a shallow bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Toss the cooked churros in the mixture until evenly coated.
- Optional: If the coating isn’t sticking well, brush churro bites with melted butter before rolling in the sugar-cinnamon mix. Serve with chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or a dash of rum extract to the dough.
- Ensure the air fryer basket is preheated before piping the churro bites to achieve a crispy texture.
