Description

Bloomin’ Apples are a delightful dessert featuring tender baked apples filled with chewy caramel squares, brushed with a buttery cinnamon sugar glaze, and served warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce. Perfect for a cozy treat, these apples can be baked in the oven or air fryer for a quick and comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apples

  • 4 apples
  • 8 chewy caramel squares

Butter Mixture

  • 4 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Additional

  • Cooking spray
  • Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, for serving
  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish and butter mixture: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Prepare the apples: Slice the top off each apple and carefully use a corer to remove the core. If any core pieces remain, remove them with a small spoon. Using a paring knife, make two circular cuts around each apple. Place the apple cut side down on a cutting board and make crosswise slices, being careful not to cut all the way through the core to create a blooming effect.
  3. Fill and coat the apples: Arrange the cut apples in the prepared baking dish. Stuff each apple with two chewy caramel squares, then brush the tops generously with the melted butter mixture to enhance flavor and assist in caramelization.
  4. Bake the apples: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the caramel has melted inside.
  5. Serve: Remove the apples from the oven and serve warm with a scoop of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream. Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra touch of sweetness.

Alternative Air Fryer Method:

  1. Whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  2. Prepare the apples as described above by coring, slicing, and creating the bloom effect.
  3. Fill each apple with two caramel squares and brush the butter mixture on top.
  4. Place the apples in the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes or until tender.
  5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle.

Notes

  • Be careful when making crosswise cuts on the apples; do not slice all the way through the core to maintain the bloom shape.
  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture after baking.
  • You can substitute chewy caramel squares with chopped caramel bits if preferred.
  • Adjust baking time depending on the size and ripeness of the apples.
  • The air fryer method is a quicker alternative but watch closely to prevent overcooking.
  • Serving warm with ice cream contrasts the tender apple with cold creaminess, enhancing the dessert experience.
