Description
Enjoy a delightful twist on a classic dessert with these Bloomin’ Apples. Soft baked apples are sliced to resemble a blooming flower, filled with rich caramel squares, and topped with a buttery cinnamon-sugar glaze. Serve warm with creamy vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce for an irresistible fall treat that’s easier to make than traditional apple pie.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Apples
- Cooking spray
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tbsp packed brown sugar
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 apples
- 8 chewy caramel squares
For Serving
- Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, as desired
- Caramel sauce, for drizzling
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. Core the apples, making sure not to slice all the way through the bottom so the apple stays intact. Slice the apples vertically about 4-5 times to create a ‘blooming’ effect.
- Mix the topping: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Fill the apples: Carefully insert two caramel squares into the center of each cored apple, between the slices.
- Apply the glaze: Place the apples in the prepared baking dish. Brush generously with the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture, making sure to coat all the petals of the blooming apples for even flavor.
- Bake the apples: Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for about 45-60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the caramel is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove the apples from the oven and let them slightly cool. Serve warm with a scoop of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra indulgent touch.
Notes
- This dessert is a perfect, easy alternative to classic apple pie with a beautiful presentation.
- Choose firm apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji for the best texture.
- Be careful not to cut entirely through the apples to keep the bloom shape intact.
- Keep an eye on the apples while baking to ensure they become tender but do not fall apart.
- You can substitute caramel squares with homemade caramel or caramel sauce if preferred.
