Bread Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar (divided)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Glaze Ingredients
- 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease only the bottom of a 9×5-inch loaf pan to prevent sticking without affecting the sides for the bread to rise properly.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking soda, and salt to ensure they are evenly combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients and Mix: In a separate bowl, blend the buttermilk, egg, and vegetable oil. Stir this mixture into the dry ingredients just until moistened, being careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Swirl: In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and the ground cinnamon to create the cinnamon sugar swirl.
- Layer Batter and Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over it. Pour the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar over the batter. Use a knife to gently cut through the batter to create a swirl pattern.
- Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, indicating the bread is fully baked.
- Cool the Bread: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare and Drizzle Glaze: In a small bowl, mix the confectioners’ sugar with 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of whole milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled loaf for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- This bread features a beautiful cinnamon sugar ribbon baked right into the center, making it as visually appealing as it is delicious.
- Greasing only the bottom of the loaf pan helps the bread rise evenly and prevents soggy sides.
- You can substitute buttermilk with milk mixed with a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar if unavailable.
- For a stronger cinnamon flavor, you can increase the cinnamon in the swirl mixture slightly.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
