Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. bulk sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Sauce

  • 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 24-oz. jar marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Pasta

  • 8 lasagna noodles, uncooked and broken into roughly 2-3-inch pieces

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, divided

Garnish

  • 1/4 cup basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook Meat and Onion: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, Italian sausage, and chopped onion. Cook while breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until meat is no longer pink and onions are translucent. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add Garlic: Return skillet to the stove, add minced garlic, and cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add Seasonings, Sauce, and Noodles: Stir in Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, marinara sauce, water, and broken lasagna noodles. Mix everything well to combine.
  4. Simmer Noodles: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 15 minutes until noodles are tender.
  5. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan cheese, dried parsley, salt, pepper, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Add Cheese Dollops and Cook More: Dollop the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodles in the skillet. Cover again and cook for an additional 5 minutes to let the cheese heat through.
  7. Finish with Toppings: Uncover the skillet and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella, parmesan cheese, and chopped basil over the top.
  8. Serve: Serve the lasagna immediately while hot and enjoy the flavorful, cheesy stovetop meal.

Notes

  • This Easy Skillet Stovetop Lasagna is a weeknight dinner game changer! It’s everything you love about lasagna, but made in one skillet on your stovetop for a super simple, no mess meal.
  • Breaking the noodles into smaller pieces allows them to cook evenly in the skillet without needing to boil separately.
  • Drain excess fat after cooking meat to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to your heat preference or omit for milder flavor.
  • Fresh basil adds a bright herbaceous finish; feel free to substitute with dried basil if fresh is unavailable.
