Ingredients
Scale
Cranberry Maple Jam
- 1 cup frozen or fresh cranberries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup, plus more for drizzling
- 1/2 teaspoon finely grated orange zest
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- Kosher salt, a large pinch
- Ground cinnamon, a large pinch
Puff Pastry and Brie
- All-purpose flour, for dusting
- 1 (8-oz.) sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 (8-oz.) wheel brie
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Cranberry Maple Jam: Preheat your oven to 425°F. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, combine cranberries, granulated sugar, maple syrup, orange zest, fresh orange juice, cornstarch, and a large pinch of kosher salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently and mashing the cranberries with the back of a spoon until the berries burst and the jam thickens, about 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in cinnamon, and allow the jam to cool.
- Roll and Prepare Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a 10-inch square. Transfer the rolled pastry onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Assemble the Brie: Place the wheel of brie in the center of the pastry. Spoon the cooled maple-cranberry jam on top of the brie evenly. Fold the four corners of the puff pastry about 1/2 inch towards the center, draping them over the brie. The dough should mostly cover the brie, with small gaps between each fold.
- Brush and Sugar the Pastry: Brush the entire pastry surface with the lightly beaten egg. Generously sprinkle turbinado sugar all over the pastry for a sweet, crunchy finish.
- Bake the Brie: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the puff pastry is lightly golden brown. If the pastry browns too quickly, tent it loosely with foil to prevent burning.
- Serve: Remove the baked brie from the oven and transfer it carefully to a serving platter. Drizzle additional maple syrup over the top for an extra touch of sweetness. Serve warm with slices of bread or crackers.
Notes
- For an easy homemade alternative to store-bought jam, prepare the maple-cranberry jam fresh to layer inside the pastry.
- If puff pastry starts to brown too quickly during baking, tent with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
- Allow the jam to cool before assembling to avoid soggy pastry.
- Serve with crusty bread or assorted crackers for a perfect appetizer.
