Description

Memaw’s Sausage Bundles are a delightful appetizer featuring seasoned pork sausage and creamy chive and onion cream cheese wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. These bite-sized bundles are baked to golden perfection and served with a tangy Dijon mustard dipping sauce, making them perfect for parties or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Filling

  • 8 oz. regular bulk pork sausage
  • 1/2 cup chive and onion cream cheese spread

Dough

  • 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls

Optional

  • Dijon mustard, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add the bulk pork sausage. Using a wooden spoon, crumble and cook the sausage thoroughly, about 5 minutes, until browned and no longer pink inside. Transfer the cooked sausage to a medium bowl and let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix with Cream Cheese: Add the chive and onion cream cheese spread to the warm sausage in the bowl. Stir the mixture until the sausage and cream cheese are evenly combined, creating a flavorful filling.
  3. Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Press the dough firmly into a 12-inch by 9-inch rectangle, sealing the perforations completely to prevent them from opening during baking. Then cut the dough into 24 equal squares, each approximately 2 inches by 2 inches.
  4. Assemble the Bundles: Spoon about 1 heaping teaspoon of the sausage mixture onto the center of each dough square. Gather the four corners of the square upward, overlapping them slightly above the filling, and twist and pinch the dough tightly to seal each bundle. Place the sealed bundles on an ungreased baking sheet with the seam side down to ensure they hold their shape during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the sausage bundles for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly.
  6. Serve: Serve the sausage bundles warm with Dijon mustard on the side for dipping, if desired, adding a savory tang to the rich, creamy filling.

Notes

  • Ensure to press and seal the crescent roll perforations firmly to prevent the bundles from opening while baking.
  • The sausage mixture can be prepared in advance and refrigerated until ready to assemble.
  • You can substitute regular cream cheese with low-fat or flavored varieties to customize the taste.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of chili flakes to the sausage and cream cheese mixture.
  • These bundles are best served warm for optimal flavor and texture.
