Description

This Oyster Cracker Churro Snack Mix is a delightful, sweet, and crunchy treat coated with cinnamon sugar and a buttery toffee glaze. Perfect for parties or a satisfying snack, it combines oyster crackers with a rich mixture of brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Cracker Base

  • 9 oz Oyster crackers
  • 2 tsp Ground cinnamon, divided
  • 3 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp Kosher salt

Toffee Coating

  • 1 cup Dark brown sugar (or light brown sugar)
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line an extra-large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and then parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange Crackers and Mix Topping: Spread the oyster crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, granulated sugar, and kosher salt. Set this cinnamon sugar mixture aside for later.
  3. Make Toffee Sauce: In a small heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the butter and dark brown sugar. Heat over medium heat until boiling, stirring occasionally. Let it boil for 2 minutes, then remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and the remaining 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  4. Coat Crackers and Bake: Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the oyster crackers and gently toss or stir to make sure all crackers are coated well. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden.
  5. Add Cinnamon Sugar Topping and Cool: Remove the crackers from the oven immediately and sprinkle the reserved cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top. Allow the snack mix to cool completely on the baking sheet.
  6. Break Apart and Serve: Once cooled and set, break and crack apart the snack mix into smaller clusters before serving.

Notes

  • If you don’t have parchment paper, be sure to butter the aluminum foil or directly butter the baking sheet, as the toffee will stick otherwise.
  • Store this snack mix in an airtight container or resealable bag for up to one week to maintain freshness.
  • To reheat, place the snack mix in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and warm in a 325-degree F oven for about 5 minutes to refresh the crispiness.
