Pretzel Chicken
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 8–10 oz each)
- 4 oz salted pretzels
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper
- 1 egg
- Neutral oil for frying
- Fresh parsley for serving
Sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 8 oz cheddar cheese shredded
Instructions
- Butterfly and Flatten Chicken: Butterfly each chicken breast to make 4 thinner pieces. Flatten chicken between plastic wrap with a mallet.
- Prepare Pretzel Crumbs: Process salted pretzels in a food processor until crumbly.
- Coat Chicken: Combine flour, garlic powder, and onion powder in a dish. Whisk the egg in another dish. Place pretzel crumbs in a third dish. Dip chicken in flour, then egg, then pretzels.
- Fry Chicken: Heat oil, fry chicken until golden and cooked through. Keep warm in the oven.
- Make Sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour, then milk and mustard. Add cheese gradually until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve: Top chicken with mustard cheddar sauce and parsley.
