Description
This easy sage butter sauce is a quick and flavorful way to enhance pasta, meats, chicken, or fish dishes. Made with simple ingredients, it features aromatic fresh or dried sage sautéed in nutty browned butter, creating a rich and savory topping in just 15 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
Butter
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Sage
- 4 tbsp fresh sage leaves or 4 teaspoon dried sage
Seasonings
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Garlic (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
Instructions
- Clean and chop the sage leaves: Rinse the sage leaves under cold water. Remove the leaves from the stems and discard the stems. Chop the sage leaves into fine pieces using a sharp knife.
- Melt the butter in a pan: Slice the butter into smaller pieces for even melting. Add the butter to a medium-sized frying pan over medium heat. Cook until the butter turns a light golden brown with a nutty aroma, about 3-5 minutes, making sure it doesn’t burn.
- Add the sage to the pan: Stir in the chopped sage leaves. Continue to cook and stir the mixture for 2 to 4 minutes, ensuring the sage infuses the butter. If using garlic, add it in the last minute of cooking.
- Season and serve: Remove the pan from heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately over pasta, meats, grilled chicken, or fish. Adjust seasonings as desired.
Notes
- For dried sage, substitute 1 teaspoon for every tablespoon of fresh sage. Add dried sage along with salt and pepper.
- Be attentive during butter cooking to prevent burning and achieve the desired nutty flavor.
